Join author, producer and pop-culture curator Roger Gastman at the Smithsonian’s S. Dillon Ripley Center in Washington, D.C., for a book signing and screening of his new documentary Wall Writers. As a book and documentary project, Wall Writers explores graffiti’s eruption into the mainstream during a period of social turmoil in the late 1960s and early ’70s, and its global impact as an artistic and cultural force. The feature-length documentary is narrated by the legendary film maker John Waters, while Gastman’s book of the same title is a comprehensive tome featuring spectacular archival photography, news articles, vintage advertising, and interviews with early graf luminaries such as TAKI-183 and CORNBREAD.
